The School opened its doors in 1978 with 80 pupils and 3 teachers. In 1979 the enroll increased to 120 with two additional teachers. All the pupils were children of Prison Officers. The School is situated 17kms east of Harare along Acturus road. The School had only 3 classrooms to be used by grades 1 to 7.
The purpose of the School is to provide Early Learning ie ECD and Primary education to children in the community. Currently the pupils come from surrounding areas which are Prison Complex, Chishawasha, Silveira, Greendale, Pangoula Farm, Mabvuku, Tafara and Eastview. The School now have a staff compliment of 33 teachers and 1265.
SPORTING ACTIVITIES
The School is engaged in the following sports disciplines:- Soccer, Netball, Volleyball, Cricket, Basketball, Handball and Gymnastics. Please note that Donald Simba Mlambo as one of the former student of Chikurubi Prison Primary School was a soccer player and now wants to assist the School one way or another.
SETBACKS
- Shortage of Classrooms.
- No school hall.
- Sporting facilities are very poor. Next to nothing because they are
not of the required standard.
- Shortage of sports uniforms.
- Shortage of Textbooks
- Some of the pupils from surrounding farms are failing to pay fees.
As former students of this Primary School it is our hope to see the School progressing.
